MODDER RIVER

On the banks of the Modder River,
’Neath  Afric’s burning sun,
British heroes peaceful slumber,
Life’s duties bravely done,
No more when pipes are sounding,
Shall they march as warriors brave,
On the banks of Modder River
They’ve found a soldier’s grave.
Muffled drums are softly beating,
Loving hearts grieving sore,
For our country’s noble heroes
Who died on Afric’s shore.
No more when pipes are sounding,
Shall they march as warriors brave;
On the banks of Modder River
They’ve found a soldier’s grave.
